Similar to any other dog breed, boxer dogs have their own and distinct behavioral cues that are enough to make you say, “…this is really a boxer dog, after all!” if you are ready for a very energetic, intelligent and big type of dog, then, brace yourself. You have just chosen to raise and keep a boxer dog as a part of the family.

Before you get yourself a boxer puppy, think about the personalities and natural behavior of one. Keep in mind that this breed is a very playful type. As mentioned, they are very energetic and keeping them quiet and still in a corner isn’t most likely going to happen. You will be envy by how this breed of dog is able to get through everyday life without getting weary and tired. That’s just how special boxer dogs are; they let you see the brighter side of life.

Another trait a boxer dog has, especially the young ones is the way they walk in a room and not mind anything that they may trample upon. You might want to think about removing the expensive vases you have in the living room by the time a puppy boxer moves in with you. However, if you have very young children at the moment, you might think about keeping a boxer dog probably in the next couple years.

But because boxers are very keen and playful, they are also great in socializing with other people. Because of their innate way of adapting to people, you can really tell that they want to be around crowds and be happy. Be sure though that you expose them to the proper type of socialization. Let them understand that being around good-natured people is okay. When bad people comes in the way, they can be defensive and since they are intelligent dogs; they can easily differentiate between the good and bad ones.

What you would want to do while a boxer dog is young is to expose him to intensive obedience training. This way, when they grow up eventually, they wont be doing chasing other dogs or cats, they won’t be too stubborn and you don’t get a headache for asking them to do what you want them to do. Consistency is the key and you will need to be with your dog all the way. They need to learn how to deal with you and what you ask of them.

Legend says when God was fashioning different breeds of dog out of clay, he came to his final task and decided to create the most beautiful dog ever and call it a ‘Boxer’. But this new breed of dog was vain and rushed to see himself in the mirror before the clay was properly set and bumped headlong into his own reflection. That accounts for the flat nose characteristic of the Boxer, and also proves that God really did accomplish his design for the world’s most beautiful dog! Here are another ten things you may not already know about Boxer dogs …..

Boxer Dog Tips and Secrets. How to make your Boxer Dog happy, healthy and obedient to your training easily and quickly.

* The Boxer Dog Who Cheated Death and Became a Television Star Instead

In 1985, a white boxer dog called Bomber was snatched from a vet’s surgery by an animal nurse and later appeared in the UK television series, Oliver Twist. It appears the dog’s previous owners decided to put the dog to sleep when they learned he didn’t quite fit new Kennel Club standards for his breed! In filming he was made to look flea bitten, dirty and covered in sores. Bomber even had a dressing room all to himself and was congratulated on giving a superb performance. Well done Bomber, and shame on those who gave up on him!

* A Boxer Dog With His Own Fan Club

A boxer dog called George was used in media advertisements in the early 1990s and became so well known that he eventually had a fan club all to himself. George’s strange expressions appeared in ads. for Coleman’s Mustard and eventually the dog became a household name and even made guest appearances at public functions and schools.

* The Boxer Dog With The Longest T-o-n-g-u-e!

A boxer dog called Brandy featured on Ripley’s ‘Believe It Or Not’ due to her incredible 17 inch long tongue! Brandy, from Michigan, USA, was bought from a local breeder in 1995 and her new owner was assured the dog would eventually grow into her l-o-n-g t-o-n-g-u-e! She didn’t and on television she was shown performing antics such as eating from a bowl 13 inches away. Her owner, John Scheid, says brandy likes sunbathing and even gets tan lines on her tongue, but says the beautiful Boxer is fit, happy and healthy, so her unique feature isn’t a problem at all. She even has her own web site at: www.tungdog.com

* Zoe, The Boxer Dog Who Came Back to Life!

Zoe’s owner, Cathy Walker, from Manuden, near Bishop’s Stortford in the UK, has been told by a medium that she is surrounded by all the pets she has lost. That certainly seems true of Zoe, a tan and white Boxer bitch who died several years ago, aged eleven. The Daily Mail (November 6th 2001) printed an amazing photograph of the bark of a tree under which Zoe spent her last day, showing what can only be described as the image of a boxer dog in the bark. Cathy tells how she is a great believer in life after death and claims the image of Zoe has strengthened that belief.

* The White Boxer Dog Who Received Hate Mail

To anyone who loves dogs in general, and Boxer dogs in particular, Solo was as beautiful as any other of her breed. To her owner, Joyce Lang, she was more than just beautiful, she was a constant friend, a much loved family member. But not everyone thought the same way and, surprisingly, in 1982, in Burgess Hill in the UK, an anonymous letter arrived addressed to Solo, saying: “I think you are the ugliest dog I have ever seen.” What sort of human could write such nonsense is beyond most people’s comprehension, and probably the letter was intended mainly to upset Joyce, an objective the hateful writer most definitely achieved. Letters continued to come saying: “Why don’t you get your master or mistress to take you for a face lift?”. One even contained a paper bag which the sender said should be placed over Solo’s head! When local newspapers heard the story the headlines proclaimed that beauty is always in the eye of the beholder and in Joyce’s and other dog lover’s eyes, Solo was beautiful.

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

* A Little Boy’s Tribute to His Pet Boxer, Lance

This story appeared in ‘The Faithful Friend (Writings About Owning and Loving Pets’ and concerned dog owners in the United States who often loaned their pets to the military in World War Two. Lance, a Boxer, worked with Dogs for Defence which eventually became the noted K09 Corps, and belonged to a family with young children, one a boy who wrote this letter to Dogs for Defence: ‘My Boxer, Lance, was in the army since last June. I have not heard anything about him since I received a certificate from the Quartermaster General. The number on it was 11281. I love Lance very much and want to know if he is doing anything brave. Can you please tell me where he is and what kind of a job he does? Please answer soon because I can’t wait much longer to know what has become of him’.

* Origins of the Boxer Dog

What we know about the origins of most breeds, including the Boxer, is largely owed to early sculptures, painting and drawings. In the Boxer’s case, a carving of a dog looking much like a Boxer can be seen on a tomb in Arnstadt where lies Elizabeth of Hohenstein who died in 1368. Flemish tapestries from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries show dogs resembling the Boxer engaged in stag- and boar-hunting.

*  German Origins

Boxer dogs became very popular in Munich where the breed is thought to have originated. But the history of the breed has not been without controversy. In fact the first Boxer Club in the UK was closed because of disagreements over almost everything pertaining to Boxers. By 1905, however, the most enthusiastic followers of the German Boxer met to develop a standard for the Boxer which would be accepted by all. The Munich Boxer Club drew up the standard which exists largely unchanged even today.

*  Boxer Dogs in America

The first Boxer dog in America was imported in 1903 from Switzerland. The new owner of the dog was New York Chief Justice of the Court of Appeals, Irving Lehman who imported many other Boxer dogs. The first Boxer dog registered with the American Kennel Club was in 1904. The dog was Arnulf Grandenz, bred in America by James Welch of Illinois.

* Boxer Dogs in Warring Nations

The boxer dog gained rapid popularity soon after the Second World War ended, ironically more prominently in countries formerly opposed in war with the Boxer’s most likely native home, Germany. Listen to what Rowland Johns says in ‘Our Friend The Boxer’: ‘The re-emergence of the Boxer breed has added proof that warring nations do not carry their antagonisms for long into the relations between them and other nations’ dogs. Both with the Alsatian and the Boxer their popularity derives directly from the contacts made during a state of war. In those two wars the adoption of both breeds by members of the British forces provided some personal satisfaction and uplift of the spirit in long periods of exile from home, family, and friends.’

One of the most amazing breeds that one can get is a boxer. The funny thing is that no matter who you are you know what a boxer looks like when you hear it. The boxer dog is a breed that has a fabulous history. Over time the boxer dog has been used as a companion, a guard dog and even a working dog which makes them quite a well rounded breed. The boxer dog is a highly muscular dog with a clean and hard build. This dog breed is very alert, active, strong and agile.

Boxer Dog Tips and Secrets. How to make your Boxer Dog happy, healthy and obedient to your training easily and quickly.

For those of you that live in warmer areas the boxer dog is great with its short, shiny and smooth coat. For those of you with children this may be a fantastic choice of breed as well. A boxer dog is known for its temperament being patient and highly playful making him good to be around children. As for protection the boxer dog is known for its curiosity and fearlessness.

Boxer Dog Secrets Honest Review About Boxer Dogs - Adopting, Housebreaking & Training

The boxer dog is a highly loyal, very affectionate and extremely dignified dog. I can honestly say when I think of a boxer dog only good traits come to mind. Out of all of the boxer dogs that I have seen it has to be the brindle that catches my eye the most. The other thing that I like about the boxer dog’s appearance is the short snout and large jowls. How could you not fall in love with that right off the bat.

boxer dogs Better pictures & more relevant results on Ask.com. Use Ask.com.

The size of the boxer dog is one that can fit into most people’s lives. Considered a medium dog breed this dog is about two feet high making it a good option for people who have enough room for more than a small breed but not enough for a hulking monster of a breed. Yes, the boxer dog is elegant and beautiful and should be given a look when in the market for a new dog or puppy.

The Boxer is a modern breed, developed around 1890. The boxer is actually descended from a combination of the bulldog and the German “Bullbeisen”, a hunter of wild boar and bears. It appears that the first actual Boxer probably sprang from “Tom”, an all white bulldog mated to a Bullbeisen female. This may explain the prevalence of all white boxers which are often produced in litters today. Most boxers of today do have white markings on the face, chest, and legs. The first standard for the Boxer breed in the American Kennel Club was drawn up in 1905 and has been changed several times since then, as it is still a continually developing breed.

Boxer Training. Boxer Training - Converts Like Crazy.

One might believe that the Boxer, because of the formidable temperament possessed by its ancestors, would be fierce and possibly aggressive. However this is very far from the truth. Careful breeding and years of selection for temperament has produced a fine dog which has an extraordinary temperament, intelligent and responsible. The Boxer has been used as a guard dog, a guide dog for the blind, and as a police dog. The Boxer is considered a “working dog” and has become an excellent family pet, non-drooling and easy care for as far as coat is concerned. The Boxer is a naturally clean dog, exuberant as a youngster but usually settles into a well mannered and affectionate family pet in later years. Boxers do love to play and they have a hardy constitution, they can do well as a “jogging companion” except in the heat of the day, when their slightly braccocephalic (short stub) nose will not allow for easy breathing. Boxers usually live to about the age of 12.

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

Boxers can be any color, the most popular being the red and white. Brindle, black and white, and all white are also seen. It is true that often the all white Boxer also carries the genetic component of deafness and should not be used for breeding.

Boxer Nutrition Find nutrition for your Boxer with our breed specific formulas!

The fashion for many years was to “crop” the ears but recently laws have been passed in Great Britain and Europe and it is now frowned upon, so more and more Boxers have naturally folded ears. However the tail is still bobbed. This is partly due to the fact that a longer tail, especially on a dog that wags its tails so much, can be beaten bloody from wagging and hitting it against various objects. In fact, the happy disposition is one of the characteristic traits of the Boxer.

<a rel='nofollow' href='http://» SportPerfect.com/\’ target=_blank>Moisture Transport Boxer Breathable/ Light/ Close fit. Made with Falke 360 for Quick Drying.

Boxer owners know that this is a special breed, most of them will never settle for any other, once they have had a Boxer as part of their life.

The Boxer is an amazing dog and is extremely playful, energetic and definitely a handful (in a good way of course). This breed of dog is extremely loyal and when a friendship is built it lasts forever. The boxer is unique and not for everyone, if you are a new owner of a boxer you have to be aware that they need a lot of attention and training. They are extremely intelligent dogs, which can work to your advantage when it comes to training, but then again can be very disadvantageous, as they know how to use their intelligence to get what they want.

Boxer Dog Tips and Secrets. How to make your Boxer Dog happy, healthy and obedient to your training easily and quickly.

Boxer dog training consists of training them up to become guard dogs; this is their main profession if you like. People who do not know boxers tend to assume that they are naturally aggressive when they are in fact the opposite and could not be more playful than any other dog! Because of their good stature and aggressive look, people are automatically assuming this dog could do more harm than good. If your boxer is not trained properly then he just might.

Boxer Nutrition Find nutrition for your Boxer with our breed specific formulas!

Because of their intelligence, Boxers can be very stubborn but when it comes to training a boxer, it can be very helpful. Owners must remember that there will be times when you ask him to do something and he’s going to look you in the face and basically tell you where to go, he knows he is supposed to do what you are telling him but he decides he can’t be bothered and doesn’t. The main thing you have to remember in these circumstances is to be patient. From as early as 6 weeks old you should start your boxer dog training as this will help him when he grows up, socialize him, play with him and teach him, but do it in an exciting way and he is more likely to listen.

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

The main aspect of training for a boxer is socialization. Boxers can be very friendly dogs but they need to be trained to become one. They need to get accustomed to other dogs and people. The best way to do this is training classes. That way your boxer will be trained alongside other dogs.

boxer dogs Better pictures & more relevant results on Ask.com. Use Ask.com.

When your boxer reaches 13-16 weeks old it’s time for some serious boxer dog training, this is the stage where he is going to test for dominance, he will nip and try to show you that he is the more dominant one, mainly by not listening to you. You have to be a strong leader at this time; you must show him that bad behaviors will not be tolerated no matter what!

Boxer Dog Secrets Honest Review About Boxer Dogs - Adopting, Housebreaking & Training

Boxers are genuinely a lovable family dog and would make a proud pet for anyone, they are dogs that prefer to sit on you lap for a cuddle than anything else. Train your boxer early with some serious boxer dog training and you can be assured you will have a stunning, loyal family friend!

<a rel='nofollow' href='http://» SportPerfect.com/\’ target=_blank>Moisture Transport Boxer Breathable/ Light/ Close fit.
Boxer dogs are an all around great breed, especially skilled in hunting and police work, and are always alert and vigilant, making for a very instinctive guard dog. Boxer dogs can bring you years of joyful companionship with a life expectantcy of about 9 to 11 years, but they could possibly live as long as 15 years!

The Boxer dogs most developed sense is his sense of hearing. His ears are cropped and they stand erect, enhancing his sense of hearing all the more. He has a medium build, and is a strong and handsome, distinguished and lovable dog.

Boxer Dog Tips and Secrets. How to make your Boxer Dog happy, healthy and obedient to your training easily and quickly.

Some of his most striking features are his chiseled head, and his squared jaw, and his muscular body, and his dark, and soulful eyes, along with the furrow on his forehead. Whose habit is standing up on his hind legs to begin a fight, and who boxes with his front paws. That’s how the boxer dog got it’s name, by the way. He also likes to mimic your moods, and he will never bark without a reasonable cause.

Boxer Dog Secrets Honest Review About Boxer Dogs - Adopting, Housebreaking & Training

The boxer dog is definetely not an outdoor dog. He needs to be kept inside the house because he is so sensitive to extremes in temperature. He certainly doesn’t enjoy the scorching heat of summer, or the freezing cold of winter, or sleeping in a drafty place. It’s because his coat is so short, and it cannont adequately protect him from the elements.

Boxer Nutrition Find nutrition for your Boxer with our breed specific formulas!

Boxer dogs are also uncomfortable in hot and humid weather, due to their short muzzle, so if possible he should be kept in an air conditioned room when it’s hot and humid outside.

The full grown female Boxer dog stands at 21 to 25 inches at the shoulder, and can weigh anywhere from 50 to 65 lbs. Whereas the male boxer can be somewhat taller and weigh up to 15 lbs. heavier. Boxer dogs have a short, smooth coat, that comes in the basic colors of brindle & fawn. The fawn color can vary from tawny tan to a beautiful shade of stag red. Whereas the color brindle, can sometimes be sparse or in between, or dense.

<a rel='nofollow' href='http://» SportPerfect.com/\’ target=_blank>Moisture Transport Boxer Breathable/ Light/ Close fit. Made with Falke 360 for Quick Drying.

One of the beauty standards for boxer dogs is their white markings or “flash” and it adds to their look and usually doesn’t cover more than one third of their entire body. Even though some all white boxer dogs may be born in a litter.

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

You are ready to bring your Boxer home? First, you must prepare your house. Whether you are bringing home a puppy or adult Boxer, you may want to spend some time surveying your house from a Boxer eye view (about 2 feet off the ground). Wires, drapes and counters look pretty interesting from that height.

Boxer Training. Boxer Training - Converts Like Crazy.

The Best Ways to Boxer-Proof Your House

Below is a list of how to Boxer-proof your home for adult or puppy: It is only a partial list, but a good start to your own research.

1. Be sure to keep anything valuable (or what you don’t want chewed) at least 3 feet off the floor. Boxers have an amazing ability to jump, even as puppies. This includes anything on the coffee table, kitchen counter, buffet, etc. Boxers are curious and love to explore.

boxer dogs Better pictures & more relevant results on Ask.com. Use Ask.com.

2. It may be cute to see your puppy with a mouthful of toilet paper, but not when it becomes the habit of an adult. Keep the bathroom door closed and eliminate toilet drinking and rolls of paper strewn about. Boxers seem to have an affinity for used cotton-balls, too!

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

3. Restrict access to your kitchen garbage. Place the bin in the kitchen sink or behind closed doors. Dispose of your cigarette butts appropriately, as they can cause nicotine poisoning.

4. Electrical cords must be monitored for signs of chewing and/or made inaccessible to your Boxer. Sometimes a nasty-tasting substance can be used to deter your Boxer. Check with your vet for some recommendations.

<a rel='nofollow' href='http://» SportPerfect.com/\’ target=_blank>Moisture Transport Boxer Breathable/ Light/ Close fit. Made with Falke 360 for Quick Drying.

5. We have all heard the horror stories of Boxers that have gotten into holiday decorations. They are attracted to the bright lights and shiny glass ornaments, so keep a close eye on your Boxer if you have Christmas decorations up.

Boxer Dog Secrets Honest Review About Boxer Dogs - Adopting, Housebreaking & Training

6. There are many kinds of poisonous plants, so be sure to contact your local veterinarian for a list of any toxic plants that grow in your area.

7. Anti-freeze is highly toxic to dogs and it is a good idea to keep all chemicals safely out of reach of your Boxer, puppy or adult.

Boxer Nutrition Find nutrition for your Boxer with our breed specific formulas!

Boxer Training. Boxer Training - Converts Like Crazy.

What if you want a Boxer, but cannot stomach the thought of housebreaking, chewed up shoes and boundless puppy energy? Have you ever heard of Boxer rescue? These organizations provide loving care (and sometimes rehabilitation) to Boxers who have been surrendered by their owners, found abandoned or rescued from harmful situations.

Too many people get a Boxer for the wrong reasons and thankfully there are rescue organizations to take these dogs into their homes and provide care until a forever family can be found.

Boxer Dog Tips and Secrets. How to make your Boxer Dog happy, healthy and obedient to your training easily and quickly.

Now, this is not to say that rescue dogs are perfect, just that with a little love and care these can be the best companion you may ever have. Many a rescue volunteer has been so touched by a Boxer moving through the rescue system that they are impacted forever.

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

To help you decide if a rescue Boxer is for you, read the list below. You may be surprised what a 2nd chance Boxer can do for you!

1. No housebreaking! In fact, most rescue volunteers do their best to ensure the dogs are housebroken and know some basic commands.

<a rel='nofollow' href='http://» SportPerfect.com/\’ target=_blank>Moisture Transport Boxer Breathable/ Light/ Close fit. Made with Falke 360 for Quick Drying.

2. Rescue/Adult Boxers are usually past the chewing stage. Just be sure to provide plenty of appropriate chew toys.

3. Reduced veterinary expenses. Most of the time, your Rescue Boxer will be neutered or spayed already (almost always) and have its shots. There will be instances when you need to continue a medication, but the volunteers will give you plenty of information prior to adopting a Boxer.

4. Sweet Dreams. Rescue/Adult Boxers usually mean that you get a goodnight sleep since you don’t have to calm the fears of a puppy. Additionally, adult Boxers have bigger bladders which means you won’t have to make a wee-wee run at 2am!

5. Thumbelina or Gargantua? You know how big the Boxer will be when you get a Rescue/Adult Boxer. There will be no surprises such as; you think you are getting a big puppy because of the big paws only to wind up with MiniMe.

Are you ready for a Boxer?

The answer is “no” if you are the type who mostly leave your dog on a chain. Boxers require much of your love, attention and companionship although they are easy to take care of.

One Boxer-lover even said to never get one as pet if you work full time!

Another point to consider is that the costs for food, training, grooming, medical care, toys and other supplies do add up.

Boxer Dog Tips and Secrets. How to make your Boxer Dog happy, healthy and obedient to your training easily and quickly.

Still, for many years now, the Boxer has ranked in the top 10 of favorite purebreds by the American Kennel Club, numbering about 35,000 Boxers registered in 2003.

Boxers Crave Attention

Boxers need constant attention and love to be babied. Treat your Boxer as your best friend and play, play, play with him.

Boxer Dog Guide Learn How To Make Your Boxer Happy, Healthy & Obedient!

One three-month old Boxer loves her bath more when the owner sings to her. Be it playing, talking or singing to them or taking them for a walk, Boxers simply love the attention.

Shower them with love, affection and attention as well as some treats.

boxer dogs Better pictures & more relevant results on Ask.com. Use Ask.com.

These keep Boxers happy. Left to their own devices, Boxers can become very destructive when lonely, bored and ignored. One is known to jump over 6-footer fences if the owner is gone for too long.

Give extra space when you have to leave Boxers alone over extended period. They don’t like to be locked in a room. One owner gives a 4-year old male Boxer the run of the hall stairs, landing and its own bedroom and the dog is much happier and not destructive at all.

Boxer Dog Secrets Honest Review About Boxer Dogs - Adopting, Housebreaking & Training

When you have to leave Boxers alone, you better make sure they have a toy they really like or they’ll find something to do that you probably really won’t like.

Destructive Streak in Boxers

Boxers are too smart and strong for their own good, and if they’re bored and undisciplined they can be a disaster in the house.

Boxer Nutrition Find nutrition for your Boxer with our breed specific formulas!

That is why obedience training is important, in order to prevent the destruction of too many of your belongings. Training makes a happier dog.

The accepted temperament for Boxers rules out aggression, hyperactivity and extreme shyness in the breed. You want to have these under control in your pet.

<a rel='nofollow' href='http://» SportPerfect.com/\’ target=_blank>Moisture Transport Boxer Breathable/ Light/ Close fit. Made with Falke 360 for Quick Drying.

Experts suggest that, when adopting a Boxer, you should at least check the parent dogs for these undesirable traits before even looking at the puppies.

Aggression

One owner said: “I love my Boxer girl, but she can be a terror sometimes and could get really hyper to where she’d attack us. I’d hate to think what all she’d get into without any training at all!”

By the way, there are more accounts, from owners, of aggression among their female Boxers, especially towards other female.

Hyperactive

Boxers have high play drive and they need their exercise or they’d get excitable and destructive.

Play, play and play with them. Give them extra space especially when you have to leave them alone for long period. Tire them out with long walks and play sessions but within a fenced area or on a leash.

When going for their walks, opt for body harness if you have a Boxer that pulls or strays.

Harness is the answer to the Boxer slipping out of the collar. The chain-harness combo looks good as well as trains the Boxer to walk without pulling or straying.

Extreme shyness (not to be mistaken with independence)

It’s critical to socialize your Boxers. When they are still puppies, take them to public places like a pet store so they won’t be so shy.

Begin training in an area that is familiar to your Boxer, where there is minimum distraction. Once both of you are skilled at several obedience commands, take him to practice at different areas with increasing amount of distractions present.

This may seems like starting all over again, but it’s worth the effort. One family took theirs to the local mini-mart and practiced obedience training right outside, where there were distractions from people.

“Strangers came over and petted him and gave him treats. He met all kinds of people and learned to follow commands despite the distractions, and is a better dog today.”
